Anemone canadensis
A low growing, spring flowering species of moist to wet calcareus soils, often at forest and water edges. Sessile opposite leaves in a single whorl grow about 6" high, although the flower stalk is much taller. In cood conditions Canada anemone can spread vegetatively into a large population. Note the non-wooly seed heads in this species.
