Tiarella cordifolia var. cordifolia

A plant of moist woods, often along stream banks. Closely related to Mitella and Heuchera. In 2021 eastern Tiarellas were split into 5 species instead of one (T. cordifolia). The stoloniferous form (T. cordifolia var. cordifolia) is now Tiarella stolonifera, and is the only native Tiarella in NYS. Species lacking stolons, or with elongated leaves, or with bracts on the flowering stalk, are given different names, with T. cordifolia now confined to Maryland & south to northern Georgia.
