A
bract
is
a
small
leaf
or
scale
at
the
base
of
a
flower
or
inflorescence.
Countless species across much of the plant kingdom have bracts. They are highly variable in description. Some look like other green leaves: relatively thin and flexible, often smaller in size. Others are like scales: thicker, firmer and lack some or all green pigment. |
