Colony:
A
many-stemmed,
relatively
dense,
collection
of
plants
of
the
same
species
in
a
given
space.
Colonies
may
sometimes
be
extensive.
Colonies may develop by means of either sexual reproduction (e.g., seeds) or vegetative reproduction (e.g., stolons or rhizomes). As used here this term is reserved primarily for plants that spread by vegetative reproduction. Colonial: (adj.) pertaining to, or exhibiting, colony formation, as defined above. |
