Colony / Colonial

Colony:  A many-stemmed, relatively dense, collection of plants of the same species in a given space.  Colonies may sometimes be extensive.

Colonies may develop by means of either sexual reproduction (e.g., seeds) or vegetative reproduction (e.g., stolons or rhizomes).  As used here this term is reserved primarily for plants that spread by vegetative reproduction.

Colonial:  (adj.) pertaining to, or exhibiting, colony formation, as defined above.
