Liana

A liana is a woody vine that needs to climb onto nearby objects, other plants or itself in order to support itself and gain access to sunlight. Young lianas may not have woody tissue for the first season or two. Some liana species are capable of producing multiple non-woody shoots that twine about each other, and thereby gain strength, which allows them to reach tree or shrub branches high above. Some of these species are very aggressive or even invasive.
