Assisted migration: What is it? Should it, can it and has it been done?

Anthropogenic change of environments is altering habitats worldwide, often to the detriment of organisms and ecosystems. Assisted migration, the intentional movement of organisms by humans to more suitable locations, has been proposed as a conservation tool to safeguard species, communities and ecosystems in the face of climate change. In this talk, Monica will discuss evidence of projected changes to the distribution of habitats in North America, what organisms are ‘doing on their own’ in response to climate change, present the pros, cons and challenges of assisted migration, and show some examples of assisted migration.
