Disc floret

In the Composite family (Asteraceae), a disc floret is a small, slender, rayless floret located within the central portion of a flower head (the "disc"). Disc florets are not found in Asteraceae species with milky sap (i.e., "ligulate species.").

Corollas of disc florets are typically 5-parted, the 5 "petals" are fused (united) for all or part of their length. The unfused, upper portions are termed "lobes". Disc florets are often bisexual, but in some species may be unisexual or sterile.
