A Virtual Tour of the Gorge at Buttermilk Falls State Park

The most spectacular falls are located a short distance below the point at which the waters of Buttermilk Creek first begin tumbling downhill; near King Road. During times of heavy rainfall, massive amounts of water surge over the steep walls of the narrow gorge, greatly amplifying the volume of water already in the creek. By the time they reach Pinnacle Rock (shown above, left) the massive volume of water crashes over the faces of two broad, high ledges for a breathtaking view. The high ledges downstream of the double falls (above, right) are often damp and drippy, except during prolonged dry spells.
