Ray / Ray floret |
||
In the Composite family (Asteraceae), a ray floret (i.e., a "ray") is a floret located along the circumference of the flower head, and possesses a widened corolla. Depending on the species, ray florets may be pistillate and fertile, or neuter. Ray florets occur only in radiate flower heads. (The term ligule is also used in some texts to refer to rays, but that use of the term is not followed here.) |
