This term is most often used with reference to the shape of leaves. A "simple" leaf is a leaf with a blade that is not divided into distinct segments (i.e., leaflets). In other words, the blade of a simple leaf is not "compound". Leaf blades that are lobed are also considered "simple", even those that have deep sinuses. (Compare with compound.) |
