Hoxie Gorge is located about 6 miles southeast of Cortland. Much of the upper valley and gorge form a 169-acre nature preserve and outdoor classroom owned by SUNY Cortland. In this talk, David will discuss the development of the gorge during the Ice Ages, ongoing geomorphic processes that are reshaping the creek channel and adjacent slopes, and discovery of 350-year-old hemlocks in one area of the preserve. This talk will be followed by a walk at Hoxie Gorge led by Michael Hough and David (Sept 21, 10 am).
