Description

Learn to identify asters & goldenrods from the man who wrote the most recent key for Central NY. (Updated version provided to participants.) This will be a small group walk. PLEASE let us know if you have registered and can no longer attend so that someone from the wait list can attend.Larch Meadow is low-lying natural area in the southwest corner of Buttermilk Falls State Park, in New York. It is bordered on the south and west by the Cayuga Lake Inlet (creek). In general, the plant community at Larch Meadow is rich and diverse. With 45 species, the aster family (“composites”) is especially well represented in the local plant community. We will find aster and goldenrod species at many points along the trail. It will be a great opportunity to learn how to distinguish the various asters and goldenrods we encounter. The trail is relatively flat the entire way, grassy most of the time.  Because the trail may be damp, it's best to weary sturdy hiking boots that are water resistant. Please bring a hand lens as well. Registration is required for this event.
