Liatris species

Only Liatris cylindracea [state endangered] and two varieties of Liatris scariosa (Liatris scariosa var. nieuwlandii [state endangered] & Liatris scariosa var. novae-angliae [state threatened]) are native to NY state. Species from the great plains are frequently recommended for pollinator gardens and that is why this record is on the website. They grow well; they serve their purpose; they are not native.
