Lilium superbum
Tall (to 7'), with many downfacing orange & yellow flowers with a central green "star" (color variable with location, but green center consistent). The tepals are strongly reflexed and the whorled leaves are broad. Found in moist, deep rich soils in forest openings, edges, thickets. Deer herbivory is a serious threat. Pollinated by swallowtails.
