Description

Looking for plants at night, especially bryophytes, is harder than in the day. This sharpens your skills. It forces you to think more about habitat and less what the plant looks like. It gets you to learn the ecology of the plants. Bring night binoculars and a red flashlight if you have one. We will cancel for thick clouds.

Meet to carpool at the Lifelong parking lot on Thursday, August 27. At 10:45 pm, we drive to Allen H Treman Marine State Park. We may meet others there and walk the paved trails until 12:15 am (Friday). People may leave early if they like.

A partial lunar eclipse will be visible in Ithaca, NY on the night of August 27–28, 2026. The partial eclipse begins at 10:33 PM EDT on Thursday, August 27. The event reaches its maximum at 12:12 AM EDT on Friday, August 28, with about 93% of the Moon's diameter covered.

This walk will run with Lifelong Learning.
