Salix xfragilis

Salix alba × S. euxina = S. ×fragilis L. (syn S. xrubens) A natural hybrid between the white willow and brittle willow. Brittle, crack, fragilis all suggest that something breaks easily, and indeed the branches are "highly brittle at base" per Flora North America (FNA). One of the English names is weeping willow, and the stems can be "erect or drooping" per FNA. It is commonly planted, and naturalized throughout the state in wet-moist disturbed areas. As with all willows, check a good regional key to determine ID.
