This European species is considered invasive in much of North America. While a field of purple can be pretty, allopathic chemicals prevent nearby plants from growing well, seriously impacting the ecology of the fields and meadows it invades. Deep taproot must be removed. May seem to be just 1-2 plants, but ~5-7 years later they become very productive!
