Spreads primarily via rhizomes.  Once established very hard to eradicate.  Forms dense thickets crowding out native vegatation.  Found in a variety of habitats, generally disturbed, by streams, roadsides, waste areas and wet meadows. Not that common in central NYS. (yet)
