Penstemon pallidus

Grows in dry harsh areas where competition is reduced in much of the Eastern U.S.  The center of its population is in the Ozark region; some references consider the eastern populations to be introduced. FLNPS follows the NY Flora Association Atlas for state nativity. Whether introduced or native, pale beardstongue is rare in the Finger Lakes. Compare to P. digitalis and P. hirsutus in the Finger Lakes region. See GoBotany for key differences between these species.
