Quercus montana
A large tree of dry, acidic soils. Frequently in thin soils at top of slopes & ridges. Distinctive leaves reminiscent of chestnuts. A good spot to see them is at Frenchman's Bluff, a Nature Conservancy property in Elmira adjacent to Tanglewood Nature Center.
