Letchworth State Park
Called "the Grand Canyon of the East" (even though Pennsylvania also has a "Grand Canyon"), Letchworth is a wonderful large gorge. "The Genesee River roars through the gorge over three major waterfalls between cliffs - as high as 600 feet in some places - surrounded by lush forests. Hikers can choose among 66 miles of hiking trails." (NYS Parks) Rare plants grow on the cliffs, a historic inn provides meals and lodging, the nearby Mount Morris dam provides a technological diversion.
