This species is a small tree or large shrub, usually found in swamps and similar wet locales. Distinguished from the other tree form Amelanchiers in our area by sparsely pubescent leaves (A. canadense is densely pubescent) and "weakly to moderately" red-purple tinged leaves during flowering (A. laevis is strongly tinged during flowering). Check keys, e.g. GoBotany for more ID characters. Edible fruit.
