Danthonia sp.
Widespread in NYS, both Danthonia spicata (poverty grass) and D. compressa (northern oat grass) are short and tough. They grow on road & woodland edges, rocky ledges, woodland openings, mostly on thin soils. Used in native/low mow lawn in Cornell's Mundy Wildflower Garden.
