Geum triflorum

Native to the northern plains, this species is secure in central Canada and the upper plains of the US. It is found in NY on northern alvar sites, where the soil is thin and competition is limited. It is not native to the Finger Lakes region, but is included because many people wish to use it in gardens. It has lovely seed heads, but to preserve the NY genotype, FLNPS does not recommend purchasing plants that are mostly from mid-western locations.
