Escaping into disturbed habitats and spreading into natural lands, this species cannot be legally introduced, sold, purchased, propagated or transported within NY state. It can form deep mats in riparian areas that choke out native flora. It can be confused with the native common hop (Humulus lupulus). See Go Botany for identifying distinctions.
