Lobelia siphilitica
A short lived perennial that needs open ground for seed germination or it dies out. Found in very moist to wet areas in sun to part shade. Tolerates somewhat drier sites than L. cardinalis. All Lobelias are poisonous, but hummingbirds and pollinators are frequent visitors. The specific name reflects an inaccurate historic belief that the species was a cure for siphilis.
