Considered "demonstrably secure in NYS" by NY Flora Association, but scarce in the Cayuga Lake quadrangle. Prefers cooler, wet locales. The common name "naked" refers to the absence of leaves on the flower stalk (vs. M. diphylla). Leaves are basal only and much rounder than M. diphylla.
