Naturalizing in the Finger Lakes, mostly found in plantings, waste areas, and edges of natural areas. A small-medium size tree historically planted for edible fruit and wildlife, this species is now listed as invasive in many parts of eastern North America. White mulberry is found throughout the country and is distinguished from the native Morus rubra mostly by leaf comparison - glossy surface vs dull scabrous, sparsely pubescent underside vs densely pubescent & larger leaves (see GoBotany). Note that the fruit of "white" mulberry can be white, pink, red or purple.
