Nyssa sylvatica

Native to the eastern half of North America, tupelo is a medium tree found mostly in lower, wetter areas. It is frequently planted for its fall color. The flowers are good nectar sources for bees. The fruit is a black drupe that is eaten by birds and wildlife, but is produced on female trees with a male tree nearby. Apparently a few flowers on many trees will be "complete" i.e. both male & female, so a small amount of fruit might be seen on a single tree.
