Panax trifolius

Moist woods. Very similar look as American ginseng, only smaller and with yellow (vs. red) berries that have ridges & triangular X-section. Compound leaves with 3 (mostly) to 5 leaflets. The flower stalk nods in bud and straightens as flowers open (unlike American ginseng which is always erect). NOT used in herbal medicine. Individual plants can have only male, or "complete" flowers (both male & female) and can apparently change gender from year to year.
