Pinus rigida
Medium tree found in pine barrens, dry rocky soils, thin soils over rock, steep S or W facing slopes. Needles 3(-5). Needle bunches frequently grow directly on the trunk. Shrubby and prostrate forms are found in more extreme environments. A tree found growing at Mohonk Lake, New York in 1973 had 351 rings!
