Prunus virginiana
Common along roadsides, wood edges and thickets, chokecherry can spread by suckering. It is very similar to pin cherry (P. pensylvanica) but chokecherry has broader, egg shaped leaves. The fruit is unpleasant for people, but used by wildlife. (Apparently there are some edible cultivars in commerce.)
