Ranunculus septentrionalis

A low sprawling plant of very moist, acidic areas. Attractive to native bees. The taxonomy of this species is inconsistent; FLNPS follows NY Flora Atlas for approved nomenclature. Although southern swamp buttercup is available in commerce, it is endangered in NY State (under one of its synonyms "Ranunculus hispidus var. nitidus"). It is legally protected from any picking or collecting. It is ecologically safest NOT to bring in garden plants from other states where the genotype is likely different.
