Scrophularia marilandica

Easy to overlook, this species can get very tall (8'). Fragrant flowers provide lots of nectar and pollen and are considered valuable plants for many insects. Look at the color of the non-fertile stamen for help distinguishing S. marilandica from S. lanceolata. Very hard to distinguish S. marilandica from the introduced S. nodosa, and Flora North America states that some taxonomists consider them one species.
