Solidago rigida

Native in the prairie states and the east coast & far west of NYS. Frequently used in Finger Lakes gardens for its showy flowers, value to generalist pollinators, and erect stature. This species is found along roadsides and in thin and rocky soils. There are three subspecies/varieties recognized for S. rigida; NYS has S. rigida var rigida. Small hairy leaves with a grey cast give this species a distinctive look.
