Forms dense floating mats in water up to 16' deep. Limits light and oxygen to native species, outcompeting native plants for nutrients and space while providing scant nutrients for the aquatic ecosystems. Propagates vegetatively and by seed. Aggressive and hard to eradicate. Seeds are spiky and can pierce leather.
