Viola rotundifolia

Yellow violet of rich woods, with rounded basal leaves (not a stemmed violet like V. pubescens or V. eriocarpa). Short, to 5 inches high and rhizomatous. Leaves & stems are hairy, and leaves get larger and rounder with age. See Arieh Tal's botphoto.info for more ID & photos.
