Gymnocladus dioicus
"Cultivated and perhaps native as well. Some believe that this tree may, at least in part, have been brought into New York by Native Americans." (NYFA Atlas, see link.) More common in the midwest. The dark brown seed pods cover the ground under a large tree. Although roasted seeds were eaten by Native Americans, the raw seeds and pods are poisonous. Fragrant flowers.
