Penstemon hirsutus

Native penstemon, found in rocky areas, thin soils, well drained conditions. Color ranges from white & purple through white & pink to occasionally all white. Smaller than the non-native P. digitalis and P calycosus, it has a "closed throat" appearance from a swelling on the lower side. The native P. pallidus is intermediate in size, all white, and has a gradual widening of the tube. See GoBotany for a quick list of distinguishing features amongst the four species.
