Walk
Working Garden Visit Series - #1 Spring in Ithaca
This year FLNPS will host several open native garden visits. Unlike traditional Open Garden Days, these gardens are not all picture perfect, nor are they 100% native. They are works in progress, some new, some older, some more formal, some restored meadows. They are gardens whose creators are trying to incorporate lots of native plants within their own esthetic. Most will be self-guided; a couple will have posted tour times. Be sure to check each date for details: May 13, July 15, Aug 12, Aug 26, Sept 9.

Moss walk
We will carpool from the CCE at 12:30pm. If you like, meet us at 1:00pm at the Roy H Park Preserve South Parking lot (42.4277, -76.3366). We will look at moss and may search for weft fern (which has been found there) and look at creek algae, if there is interest. We will go until 3:00. The walk will be mostly flat, but some climbing (optional) may be involved.
Asters and Goldenrods at Mundy Wildflower Garden
Easy walking so you can focus on learning how to identify members of the Aster family - asters, goldenrods, and probably more. These are the stars of fall flowers, but many people stop at the color. "purple/white aster" or "another goldenrod". We can do better, and learn which species prefer moist, dry, sun, shade, acid, lime, etc! Knowing the conditions helps you find them in the wild.
Seed Collecting (originally rain date)
ONLY IN CASE OF RAIN OR DELAYED SEED RIPENING. This walk has hit capacity.
To be put on a waiting list, in case earlier respondents cannot make the final date, please email info@flnps.org.
Seed Collecting (Must register for info) Postponed
The annual seed walk is back on. Help collect summer and fall blooming species for both the FLNPS seed exchange and the Cornell Botanic Gardens Natural Areas propagation program. Learn to identify dead and dying plants in the process, and how to properly collect and store various types of seeds. Always fun!
RAIN DATE - October 22, same time - contact info@flnps by noon if uncertain.
